when silence outgrows
those who want a piece of it
will take their bites
a mouthful
those who want to set it fire
would look for even a tiny spark

some will throw words that you have never heard
and they would fall at your feet
like broken twigs
some would stick out like bare branches
and you will be challenged to ignore them

your silence would be the most selfish thing
and would scare some people
but you know
those who would be willing to touch it would know
its depth
and breadth

you don’t have to say anything
and break it’s back bone
