I used to scratch my back
against the black keys
to feed the itch
that clung to my skin.
The waves seeped in
striking a tune
taking away
my imbedded footprints.
I watched the foam
lick off the clefts
and the waves flattened them
to a merciless sheet.
It’s with restraint
I hold myself off
not to scratch very hard
and erase my own imprints.
