Gravity

you clutch the dusk to your heart
gazing at the disheveled raven night
swearing when your reigns slip and fall
tossed to the road side.
you say its gravity holding you down.

you cry when the petals ripe and fall
the flowers on show you prune in daylight
and you steal a sip from the glass you give
watching others as they take their fill.
you say its gravity holding you down.

you eavesdrop on the sounds of the caves
its dark is inscribed under your eyes
and you always look outside the lens
those pictures you take are faceless frames.
you say it’s gravity holding you down.

you smile at the swollen flames of  fireflies
trap them inside jars  at night
and even try to paint a square rainbow
on the moving northern wind and the tide.
you say it’s gravity holding you down.

we are not the trees we plant on this earth
or the waves that claim the ocean script
the more we make room inside our hearts
the higher we soar beyond the stars.
it’s not gravity that is keeping us down                .
