Torch Bearer

It’s not just a flame you carry
in your hand, my son.
It’s a light that will scorch the dark
in your eyes.

Do not be afraid to hold it
in your hand, my son.
You have earned it and now it’s yours
in this life.

It’s not a toy to play with
in your hand, my son.
It’s heat will mark you if you cling
to it’s views.

It’s not just a fire you have
in your hand, my son.
Only it will burn your chances to be
a son anymore.

This is no ordinary birth
to hold it, my son.
It’s a time that light exist before
darkness arrives.

Take heed these words
to your heart, my son.
Very rarely will mothers encourage
out of real love.
